In November, James McCallum found a juvenile Red-breasted Goose at Warham Greens, Norfolk, which I enjoyed the same day as the returning Pallid Harrier that Mike Buckland refound. A few days later, Mike found an adult Red-breasted Goose a short way west, at Wells. Both birds disappeared, the adult quicker than the juvenile, and the adult has properly disappeared. The juvenile, however, had relocated to fields inland, but news was kept quiet in this farmer-sensitive area. Fortunately, the bird has been reliable at Cley over the past few days - so I took advantage of a few spare hours and paid it a visit. While not vocal like the bird a couple of winters ago, it really is a sumptuous creature, and to see it at 50m range was a proper posts-christmas treat.
