23 June 2022 Wainwright

My apologies for the lack of blog recently: I've been travelling (including co-leading the Wildlife Travel Norfolk tour - for which see Jono Leadley's blog here and thetrip report here) and have since been struck down by COVID. The Wainwright Prize - now known as the James Cropper Wainwright Prize - has become established as the 'Oscars' of the nature-writing world. When I wrote Much Ado About Mothing, I harboured a dream that it might become a candidate for this ultimate accolade. But never did I expect that dream would become reality. Yet today, the 2022 James Cropper Wainwright Prize longlists have been announced - and Much Ado... is on there, in the company of several personal heroes. I shed tears on hearing (a few weeks ago) and remain over the moon. But, more importantly, I hope that this recognition for the book is matched by recognition for the importance, beauty and wonder of the book's subjects. Because #MothsMatter
