I also received the edited text to check for the next instalment of the monthly serialisation of 52 wildlife weekends in the Independent on Sunday, wrote a short piece for BBC Wildlife, received a request from British Birds for further photos, pitched an idea to Discover Britain plus some photos to birding magazines, and received confirmation from Bradt Travel Guides that they will publish my next book... effectively a follow-up to 52 wildlife weekends. You heard it here first.
The Countryman has just started serialising 52 wildlife weekends as well. By coincidence, for its October issue, the editor chose the same weekend as Wild Travel. So you may recognise some of the photos...
Next magazine in my in-tray was the October issue of British Birds. This contained the annual report on rare birds in Britain for 2013, which contained my photographs of a Bonaparte's Gull in London and a Hermit Thrush in Cornwall.
Then, under a stack of papers, I discovered the October issue of Wild Travel lurking. This magazine carries a monthly article, effectively serialised from my book 52 wildlife weekends. October's choice is the Isles of Scilly.
A bit of a day for seeing my stuff in print.
I had my first piece in Discover Britain - albeit a small one on 'Britain's rarest wildlife'. A second piece - on Britain's best seabird cities - was also due to issue in the October issue, but - for reasons of space - has been given an alternative home in the December issue of Wild Travel magazine instead.
