23 February 2015  Adder 'nuff of winter?


If you feel that winter is dragging on and you yearn for spring, go herping! Having been walked round the site by Josh Jones earlier this month, one sunny February morning too many prompted me to ditch computer for camera, and wander Holt Country Park looking for Adders. I found only one, but - hey! - I found one! The first viper of spring always sends me shivering with excitement, and this male showed very well on a south-facing, sheltered slope. After about 10 mins of me enjoying it from a few metres distance, he detected my presence and steadily coiled his way into vegetation before I could get within macro lens distance. As I left, I was serenaded by Marsh Tit and WoodLark. Then it was back to the 'pooter...
